More about M.A.S.T.'s N.J.R.O.T.C. Program
There are several components of the drill team and color guard. A cadet's drill team experience begins in the basic new cadet drill team. There the cadet learns the basics of drill and gets his or her first experience in parades and competitions. After finishing their first year, cadets then participate in more advanced competitions. At MAST these drill teams are unarmed basic team, armed basic team, armed exhibition, and unarmed exhibition, or trick. Along with the drill team the color guard participates in all ceremonies with the drill company. There are five members of the color guard and several alternates.
The MAST drill company and color guard participates in several events including parades and drill competitions. Parades MAST participates in are in Monmouth county and include the Columbus Day Parade, the St. Patrick's Day Parade, and the Memorial Day Parade. MAST also participates in the New Jersey/Delaware Navy and Marine Corps JROTC competition at Linden, New Jersey and the Area Four Navy JROTC Field Competition at Middletown, New York. At these competitions the NJROTC Drill Company and Color Guard participate in competitive drill routines as well as competitions by other cadets in physical fitness and academic competitions.
